We are political will

I’m here to say: We are on nature’s timeline.

We can only prop up and reform systems that are out of touch with physical imperatives for so long, because we are on nature’s timeline.

We can’t make the sun rise.

We can’t even spin the earth in such a way as to make it appear to us to rise.

But we can invent a better, more fair way to share the grid we’ve invented. We can invent a better battery, a super-efficient system to store and share energy, that is responsive to human needs and the sun and wind and tides,

responsive to nature’s timelines.

We are a people who know how to do this. We know how to wait for the tide to quahog. We know how to wait for the wind to sail. For the season for flounder, for lobster, when to watch and let the whales pass.

responsive to nature’s timelines.

We are here, as part of earth, listening to earth and responding in a self-healing way.

As such, we are on nature’s timeline and can’t resist—

can’t wait for political opportunity or political expediency.

We must be political will, and act.

We are in the middle of the sixth great extinction

and if we don’t act, and act more forcefully and deeply NOW,

it may be the Greatest Extinction.

The good news is life will be better if we do. This Great Turning toward an ecologically responsive and integrated economy, a life-sustaining economy, will be more just.

will be more attuned to nature, it’s beauty and soothing rhythms.

less treacherous, anxious, frantic, less of a high-wire act.

We are on nature’s timeline,
so let’s slow down.

We are on nature’s timeline,
so let’s act now.
